AGLC4 Rule 3.1: Statutes (Acts of Parliament)

An Australian Act is cited by its title, the year it was first passed, the jurisdiction that passed it and then any pinpoint. Each of those elements is dealt with separately in rules 3.1.1 to 3.1.7.

Formatting

  • The elements always run in the order title, year, jurisdiction, pinpoint.
  • Title and year together form one italic run; the jurisdiction and the pinpoint are roman.
  • Elements are separated by single spaces and no commas.
  • The jurisdiction is enclosed in round brackets.
