AGLC4 Rule 9.2.10: UN Document Number

Give the document's unique number after UN Doc, copied exactly, including slashes and full stops, with abbreviations in capitals. Where two numbers are needed, such as for a corrigendum or addendum, use UN Docs, join them with and, and give the second only as far as it differs from the first. The component codes of a document number are set out in the tables.

UN Doc Document Number

A boxed element is filled in with the source's details; everything outside a box is written exactly as shown.

Formatting

  • UN Doc is roman and followed by a space and the number.
  • The number is copied exactly as issued, keeping its slashes and full stops; abbreviations within it are in capitals.
  • No comma follows the number; the date bracket comes next after a single space.
  • No year suffix is added to a resolution number.
  • Two document numbers take the plural UN Docs and are joined by and, with the second number cut down to the part that differs.
  • General Assembly resolutions before the 31st session (1976) show the session in Roman numerals in round brackets after the number, with a prefix for special and emergency special sessions.
  • The component codes in the tables help read a number but do not change how it is written.
