AGLC4 Rule 7.9: Intellectual Property (‘IP’) Materials
Patents, trade marks, designs and similar rights are cited by an italic identifier made up of the jurisdiction code, the kind of right, any identifying label and the number, then the filing or lodging date, and in brackets the latest change of status with its date. Use the two-letter codes of WIPO Standard ST.3, the terminology of the registration documents, and a registration number in preference to any other. Where nothing has happened since filing, omit the status bracket; a renewal is not a status change.

Format
Quoted from the Guide, page 121A boxed element is filled in with the source's details; everything outside a box is written exactly as shown.
Formatting
- The identifier is a single italic run: the jurisdiction code, the kind of right, any label such as Registration or Application, the word No and the number.
- The jurisdiction code is the two-letter WIPO ST.3 code, in capitals.
- The kind of right is spelt as the office that registered it spells it, for example Trademark for the United States and Trade Mark for Australia.
- A registration number is used in preference to any other number; where no label accompanies the number, it follows No directly.
- A comma follows the identifier, then the roman words filed on or lodged on and the full date.
- The latest status change follows after a space in round brackets, as the status word with an initial capital, the word on, and the date.
- The status bracket is omitted where the only event is the filing.
- An optional short title follows in a further round bracket, italic within single curly quotation marks.
- The citation ends with a full stop.
