AGLC4 Rule 24.1.5: Cases: Unreported Cases

Unreported United Kingdom decisions follow rule 2.3. Decisions with a court-assigned neutral citation are cited under rule 2.3.1 using the identifiers in the table, and all others follow rule 2.3.2. For identifiers marked with an asterisk, the bracketed division is placed after the judgment number.

Formatting

  • The case name is italic, followed by the square-bracket year, the court identifier and the judgment number.
  • For asterisked identifiers, the bracketed division follows the judgment number, as in [2010] EWHC 64 (Fam).
  • A comma separates the judgment number or bracketed division from a paragraph pinpoint in square brackets.
  • The judge follows in round brackets; a judgment delivered for the court is described as for the Court.
  • A decision with no neutral citation has a round bracket containing the court, judge and full date separated by commas, followed by the pinpoint.
  • A Scottish petition is cited by a short name in the party form, not by the long petition title.
