AGLC4 Rule 14.2.3: Courts of the European Union

Reported decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the General Court and the Civil Service Tribunal are cited by the parties' names, the case number in parentheses, the year, the report series (ECR or ECR-SC), the starting page and a pinpoint. Unreported decisions give the court as named on the decision, the case number, any ECLI and the full date in parentheses. Pinpoints are to paragraphs.

A boxed element is filled in with the source's details; everything outside a box is written exactly as shown.

Formatting

  • Parties' names are taken from the first page of the report, subject to chapter 1, and are italic, separated by an italic v.
  • The case number, with its prefix (C- for the Court of Justice, T- for the General Court, F- for the Civil Service Tribunal), is roman in round brackets directly after the parties' names.
  • The year is in square brackets, followed by any volume number, the report series (ECR or ECR-SC) and the starting page, separated by spaces.
  • ECR-SC page numbers carry the section prefix II- on both the starting page and the pinpoint.
  • A comma separates the starting page from the pinpoint.
  • Unreported decisions: after the italic parties' names, round brackets hold the court as named on the decision, the case number, the ECLI and the full date, each separated by a comma; the paragraph pinpoint follows in square brackets.
  • The ECLI, where available, includes the letters ECLI and goes after the case number with a comma before and after it.
  • Pinpoints are to paragraphs in square brackets; a page pinpoint may be followed by paragraph pinpoints.
