AGLC4 Rule 7.1.2: Parliamentary Papers, Committee Reports, Bills Digests and Alert Digests

Where a parliamentary committee is the author, name the committee and then the legislature it belongs to, adding the chamber in front of the committee name when the committee sits in only one chamber and its name does not reveal which. For bills digests, alert digests and similar series, adjust the document type to suit and express the number as a number of a year unless the title already shows the year.

Committee, Legislature

A boxed element is filled in with the source's details; everything outside a box is written exactly as shown.

Formatting

  • The author position holds the committee name, a comma and space, then the legislature (for example Parliament of Victoria), then the comma that precedes the title; both parts are roman.
  • The chamber (for example Senate) is placed at the start of the committee name when the committee belongs to one chamber only and the name does not already say so.
  • A department author may carry its jurisdiction abbreviation in round brackets after its name, for example (Cth).
  • For digests the document type becomes Digest and the number reads No, the number, the word of, and the year, all roman.
  • A financial or parliamentary year span in a digest number is shortened as rule 1.11.4 directs and joined by an unspaced dash.
  • Where the title already carries the number and year (for example a title such as Tenth Report of 2016), no separate number is given and the bracket gives only the document type and date.
  • An Act or Bill name that appears within a report title is simply part of the italic title and gets no separate treatment.
  • A pinpoint may combine a page range and paragraph numbers in square brackets, separated by a space.

the title already gives the number and year, so repeating them as a document number is wrong
