AGLC4 Rule 2.1.12: Admiralty Cases

In an admiralty action in rem, brought against the ship, the case name is the ship's name. In an action in personam between private parties, cite the parties' names, and the ship's name may be added afterwards as a short title. The word The in a ship's name is kept.

Formatting

  • For an in rem action the case name is the ship's name alone, italic, with its leading The kept.
  • A decision number follows inside the italic name in square brackets.
  • For an in personam action the parties are named in the usual way, separated by v.
  • The ship's name may follow the report citation as a short title, after one space, in round brackets and curly single quotes, with the name italic and the brackets and quotes roman.
