Canadian statutes are cited by title, then the statute volume code joined to the jurisdiction code, the year, the chapter and any pinpoint, each part governed by a subrule.

Formatting

  • The elements run in this order: title, volume and jurisdiction code, year, chapter, pinpoint.
  • The title is italic and is followed by a roman comma.
  • The volume and jurisdiction code is followed by a space and the year; the year is followed by a comma.
  • The chapter is introduced by a lower case c with no full stop, and a comma separates the chapter from the pinpoint.
