AGLC4 Rule 15.1.1: Cases: General Rule

Cite a Canadian case exactly as an Australian case under chapter 2. Adding the court at the end is optional and only helps where the report series does not already make the court obvious.

Formatting

  • The case name is italic and is followed by the citation with no comma between them.
  • A report series organised by year, such as SCR, takes the year in square brackets followed by the volume number.
  • The report abbreviation is roman and is followed by a space and the first page.
  • The citation ends with a full stop.
  • The court, when added under rule 2.2.6, goes at the end in round brackets, roman, written in full; leave it out for SCR and any other series that reports only one court.
