AGLC4 Rule 1.5.4: Editing Quotations
Changes to quoted words are shown in square brackets and omissions by ellipses. The original spelling, capitalisation and hyphenation are otherwise preserved, but titles that the Guide italicises are italicised.

Formatting
- Insertions and substitutions are placed in square brackets, for example [Commonwealth] or [it] in place of a pronoun.
- Omitted words are shown by a spaced ellipsis, which can follow a comma inside a list.
- The source's spelling, including non Australian spelling in names, is kept unchanged.
- Case names, statute titles and treaty titles in a quotation are italicised even if roman in the source; no parenthetical is needed for that change.
