AGLC4 Rule 9.2.12: Annex

A pinpoint to an annex uses the word annex, with the annex's own designation where there are several. If the annex is effectively a separate document with its own title or pagination, the first citation gives the containing document, then the annex with its title as a short title, then the pinpoint within the annex; later references use the annex title and the containing document's number.

Citation to UN Document Containing Annex annex (‘Title of Annex’) Pinpoint within Annex.
Title of Annex, UN Doc Document Number of UN Document Containing Annex (n Footnote Number) Pinpoint within Annex.

A boxed element is filled in with the source's details; everything outside a box is written exactly as shown.

Formatting

  • The word annex is lower case and never abbreviated.
  • Where there are several annexes, the annex's own designation follows as printed, for example a number, an ordinal or a letter.
  • A pinpoint inside an annex that is not a separate document and has no title of its own follows a comma after annex.
  • For an annex that is effectively a separate document, the annex title sits between annex and the pinpoint within the annex: italic, in curly single quotation marks, inside round brackets.
  • A subsequent reference to such an annex is its italic title, a comma, UN Doc and the containing document's number, n and the footnote number in round brackets, and the pinpoint within the annex.
