AGLC4 Rule 14.4.2: Advisory Opinions

Advisory opinions are cited by the italic title followed by (Advisory Opinion), then in parentheses the court, the document number and the full date, then a pinpoint. The court is left out of the parentheses where its name already appears in the title. The number is labelled as the institution labels it, and pinpoints are to paragraphs where they are numbered continuously, otherwise to pages.

Formatting

  • The title is italic and is followed by (Advisory Opinion) in italics, with italic round brackets.
  • Roman round brackets then hold the court, the document number and the full date, separated by commas.
  • Where the court's name appears in the title, it is omitted from the brackets, which then start with the document number.
  • The document number keeps the institution's label, such as Series No, Doc No or Request No.
  • As much of the date as appears in the opinion is given.
  • Paragraph pinpoints go in square brackets after the closing bracket; page pinpoints are used only where paragraphs are not numbered continuously.
