AGLC4 Rule 1.9.1: Official Dictionary

Spelling follows the latest Macquarie Dictionary, taking the first listed form where it gives alternatives unless there is good reason otherwise. Words it does not contain follow the Oxford English Dictionary, which usually means British spelling. Hyphenation follows the Macquarie, and a compound it does not list is hyphenated rather than joined.

Formatting

  • Australian spelling by the Macquarie Dictionary, first listed alternative.
  • Fallback to the Oxford English Dictionary for words the Macquarie lacks.
  • Hyphenate compounds as the Macquarie does; hyphenate compounds it does not list.
